The genesis of the Carson Brown Band (CBB) occurred about 2021, when seventeen-year-old Carson Brown met two retired US Air Force officers in church, and collaborated over several years to bring worship music to their congregation in Hill City, South Dakota. With Carson playing his variety of guitars, Steve “Mac” McPherson playing drums, and Chris Darling on bass, an undeniable musical spark was found and the decision was made to form a group, move beyond worship music, and see what happened next.
What happened next was electric. The band was quickly noticed in the central Black Hills music scene, and won the Hill City Arts Council Steve Thorpe Award as the best new act in 2023. Since that time, the band has honed their craft playing at a variety of venues throughout the central and southern Black Hills, and positioning themselves for the breakout that was bound to eventually come.
That breakout happened in 2026, with CBB receiving a cascade of booking requests through the entire tourist season, including at bars, festivals, and weddings throughout the Black Hills. Never content with the status quo, the band this year added two excellent new musicians: Cody Hart on lead/rhythm guitar, and classically-trained Avery Massey on viola (which works just fine as a country fiddle!)
The Carson Brown Band prides itself on offering a clever, enjoyable, and carefully curated variety of music that is sure to get your dancing toes tapping regardless of your genre preference. CBB features an extended repertoire of country music favorites from several decades, along with pop music standards, Blues, and rock and roll. CBB has something for everyone.
